Minimally Invasive Surgery (sometimes called laparoscopic surgery) is done through small incisions. Using specialized techniques, miniature cameras with microscopes, tiny fiber-optic flashlights and high definition monitors, minimally invasive surgeons can perform surgery through an incision that requires only a stitch or two to close.

For patients, minimally invasive surgery means less trauma to the body, less blood loss, smaller surgical scars and less need for pain medication. Patients leave the hospital sooner after minimally invasive surgery and return to normal activities sooner than with conventional open surgery.

Because most patient recover within two weeks of surgery rather than the normal 6-8 weeks with an open procedure minimally invasive surgery is becoming one of the fastest growing techniques available for surgeons today.

Dr. Volker is committed to not only providing this option for his patients in Las Vegas, he is dedicated to spreading the knowledge and know how to surgeons all across the United States through his Minimally Invasive Surgical Institutes- the American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (AI MIS) and the Las Vegas Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery (LV MIS).
